Preview: Jake Shimabukuro

The man has forearms of steel. You need those if you’re going to be a ukelele virtuoso. Jake Shimabukuro is one of the most impressive musicians I’ve ever seen. Creative. Powerful. Funny. He’s a man who doesn’t take himself too seriously, but takes his instrument very seriously. It makes for a wonderful show. And by the time he breaks out into “Bohemenian Rhapsody” to end the show, the crowd is eating out of the palm of his hand.

I shot so many pictures my hands were starting to cramp, but they were nothing compared to what Shimabukuro put his fingers through. I marvel at it.

In the days ahead, I’ll walk you through the whole night, straight up to the most unbelievable ending I never would have imagined. So cool. (And that’s the tease — stay tuned for the future write-ups.)

So much fun. Thanks, Jake, and thanks to Shore Fire for granting me the photo pass last night, and Mexi Cali Live for hosting.
