Ferris Wheel 2010

Another year, another trip to the local carnival.  The sun was setting as we were leaving, and the sky was magnificent.  I wish I could have stuck around another half hour to shoot the living daylights out of that sunset, if you’ll pardon the pun.  I wish I could have set up a time lapse somewhere.  It was magical tonight.

Instead, we get this handheld shot:

OLV Carnival Ferris Wheel 2011

28mm Prime Lens, ISO 640, f/3.5, 1/8000 second

I like it. I like the silhouette of the carnival with the lights strung along, in front of a glorious blue sky with light clouds and the last hints of orange/pink light coming off the horizon.  I love clouds sooo much.

The Photoshop geeks would likely want to clone out the power lines, but what can you do?  They’re there. You can shoot around them, but they’re impossible to ignore in a shot this wide from this far away.  I’ll deal.

I’m impressed with how wide this looks, giving that it’s a 28mm lens on a 1.6x crop factor camera.  Thanks, Lightroom3, for lens correction!
